King has been a fixture on the U.S. music scene for 60 years and has recorded more than 50 albums.
Still, the 85-year-old showed he still knows how to rock.
From legends to the newcomers, American Idol contestant Pia Toscana and winner Kris Allen paidtribute to the stars and stripes.
U.S. public broadcaster PBS has broadcast the National Memorial Day Concert from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for the past two decades.
And the concert was also broadcast live to U.S. service members stationed overseas and serving on on U.S. Navy ships.
