Comedian Russell Brand joined the Dalai Lama on stage in Manchester as the Tibetan spiritual leader tours the UK.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (JUNE 16, 2012)(ITN) -
Russell Brand is known for his comedic skills but he was upstaged by the Dalai Lama in the laughter stakes in Manchester on Saturday (June 16).

The Tibetan leader unexpectedly grabbed the beard of the "Rock of Ages" star, with Brand, caught in an awkward position, joked to the audience: "Not really a lot I can do in a situation like this. Just got to go with it."

The Dalai Lama is on a short British tour to share his beliefs in non-violence and compassion with young people.

He will travel to London, Edinburgh, Dundee, and Inverness, as well as meeting parliamentarians at Westminster and Holyrood.
