Ellen DeGeneres dishes on how she felt when asked to host the Oscars for the second time and what to expect for the show. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES (NOVEMBER 22, 2013) (REUTERS) - Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres talked about what to expect at the 2014 Oscars at a charity event in Los Angeles on Friday (November 22).
DeGeneres jokingly tied in her personal experience of being battery-less one year. "I remember one Christmas I was opening a present and it took me like 20 minutes to open it because the package was that plastic that you couldn't open and I had a blowtorch out and I finally got it out and there were no batteries," she said. "I remember crying and screaming and having a tantrum and Portia said, 'calm down,' and I said 'okay.' Then she put the batteries in my Barbie corvette." She also talked about what it felt like when she found out she was hosting the Oscars for the second time since 2007. "When they asked me to, at first I was like, 'uh, I don't want to do that again,'" she said. "I've done that and it was nerve-wracking. And then I thought about it and it's fun to challenge myself, I like to do something that, I don't want to jump out of a plane, I don't want to take that kind of a risk, but I thought, 'why not host the Oscars again,' so it's going to be fun." And as to what people are going to expect this year at the Academy Awards? "It's going to be totally different. It's going to be casual. I'm going to have people wear shorts and tanks," she joked. "We're writing and we're working on it but until the movies are nominated and see who's going to be there, there's not really, you know. I'll be in the audience a lot, I like being in the audience. I'll walk around and play with people in the audience for sure." Oscar nominations will be announced on January 16. The 86th Academy Awards is scheduled for March 2. |
