Netherlands-born actress Sylvia Kristel, famous for her role in iconic 1970s erotic movie 'Emmanuelle,' dies at 60.

 (STUDIO CANAL) -  Sylvia Kristel, the Dutch-born actress who shot to fame in the iconic 1970s erotic movie 'Emmanuelle' has died in the Netherlands, various French news outlets reported on Thursday (October 18)

Directed by Just Jaeckin and based on a novel by Emmanuelle Arsan, the movie tells the story of a 20-year-old woman living in Bangkok with her husband and discovering a life of frivolity.

Released in 1974, just years after the May 1968 demonstrations in France and the sexual liberation that came with them, the movie scored more than nine million cinema entries in France alone and earned considerable success across the world.
