Gandolfini's Body Held At Hospital Morgue, Details Of Passing Awaited

Media gather outside the morgue of Rome's Policlinico Hospital where the body of Sopranos' star James Gandolfini is being held after the actor died of a possible heart attack.

ROMEITALY (JUNE 20, 2013) (REUTERS) -  Members of the media on Thursday (June 20) gathered outside the morgue of Rome's Policlinico Umberto Primo Hospital where the body of actorJames Gandolfini was being held following his death on Wednesday (June 19) evening.

Gandolfini, best known for his Emmy-winning portrayal of a conflicted New Jerseymob boss in the groundbreaking cable TV series "The Sopranos," passed away while vacationing in Italy. He was 51.

He died of a possible heart attack in RomeHBO spokeswoman Mara Mikialian told Reuters.

According to the press office of the Policlinico Umberto Primo hospital Gandolfini was taken to the hospital around 2300 local time on Wednesday night (2100gmt).

Attempts to resuscitate him failed, the press office told Reuters Television.

U.S. embassy attaché is expected to visit the morgue before Gandolfini's body is transferred away from the hospital grounds.
