Madonna's MDNA has gone straight to number one, sending the singer into the record books.

UNIVERSAL - Madonna's new album 'MDNA' made chart history on Monday (April 2, 2012) as it went straight to number one of the UK charts sending the singer into the record books.

'MDNA' is Madonna's 12th album to top the UK charts, something not even Elvis Presley managed to achieve throughout his career. The King managed an impressive eleven chart topping albums, but Madonna's success means she now has the top spot as the most successful solo artist ever in UK album charts, according to the UK's Official Charts Company.

US tenor Noah Stewart set another chart record in the UK when he became the first black musician to have a number one album in the classical chart with his debut 'Noah'.

The album also entered the main album chart at number 14, the second highest new entry behind MDNA.
