Rumours that Hollywood power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt may soon marry at their chateau in the south of France bring curious tourists and journalists to the quiet corner of France.

CORRENS, FRANCE (AUGUST 10, 2012) (REUTERS) - All eyes were on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's country chateau in the south of France on Friday (August 10) as rumours of a possible weekend wedding between the Hollywood power couple flitted round the world.

Journalists and curious passers-by were to be found outside the gates of the 17th century pile, although local officials said they had no knowledge of any impending nuptials.

Local newspaper Var Matin categorically denied a France 3 TV report that the wedding could take place on Saturday (August 11) and village hall staff said no banns had been published.

Security was tight at the 60 million dollar chateau in the Var, which the couple, dubbed Brangelina by celebrity media, bought in 2008. No frantic preparations were visible according to a Reuters reporter at the scene.

The rumours did manage to attract passers-by who hoped to catch sight of any Hollywood A-listers.

"I thought it would be a good idea to come past here because I thought that if there's a wedding there'll be high-profile guests and I was trying to run into someone like George Clooney or another American director," a visitor called Vincent said outside the estate's automatic gates.

But apart from the odd passing car, the small village in a tranquil corner of southern France was quiet.

"We'll have to wait and see if they're really going to get married. You shouldn't listen too much to rumours," local resident Syl said to Reuters TV.

Since Pitt and Jolie announced their engagement earlier this year, there have been rumours that they could tie the knot this summer at their French estate.

But speaking during the Cannes Film Festival in May, Pitt denied the pair had set a wedding date.

"We have no date, we actually really, truly have no date. It's just something that made sense to us. Date wise, it's absolutely rumours," he said.
