Simon Cowell says he'd let his child be a pop star, only if they were signed to him.

LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (AUGUST 20, 2013) (SONYPICTURES HANDOUT) -  Simon Cowell admitted he'd let his child be a pop star on Tuesday (August 20) at the world premiere of One Direction's debut movie "One Direction: This is Us".

The music mogul's company, Syco, houses One Direction and also co-produced the boyband's feature length documentary.

One Direction have become a global phenomenon, selling out tours worldwide and their world premiere was no exception. Over three thousand fans crammed into the cordoned off garden of London's Leicester Square and hundreds had to be turned away.

When asked why he believed they had struck such a chord with music fans globally, Simon Cowell answered "It's always down to the artist. You know, you always have grand plans for everyone you sign but it has to come from them. It started with make the best possible record, so you have to thank the writers, the producers but it all came together at the right time and they knew who they wanted to be."

It was recently reported by US website Business Insider that One Direction will become the first boyband to gross $1 billion (US dollars) in a year. However, Cowell doesn't want to know. "I don't think about that. You know, you take it record by record and that's the most important thing and you've got to give the fans what they want. I don't like all those numbers. Most of them are made up anyway."

The band members, Zayn MalikHarry StylesNiall HoranLouis Tomlinson andLiam Payne, whipped the crowd into a frenzy at the premiere, signing autographs, waving and blowing kisses to fans - something which Cowell puts down to them being hard workers.

"Well that's what you're going to see when you watch the movie is that it's not all easy because you've got to work long, long hours and you've got to be on it and I've been around them a lot and their energy level is incredible. But one thing I've noticed with them, whatever they're doing whether it's a day like this or a show, always think of the fans."

Cowell is reported to be having a baby with New York socialite Lauren Silverman, and even told the BBC at the premiere "I'm proud to be a dad."

After pointing out how hard pop bands work, Cowell was asked if he would let his child become a pop star. "If they were signed to me, yes, because I'd look after them," he quipped.

"One Direction: This is Us" goes on release in the UK on August 29th.
