Sony prepares to release its highly anticipated video game Gran Turismo 5 to the U.S. market on November 24.

NEAR HOCKENHEIM, BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG, GERMANY. GRAN TURISMO 5 VNR - Gran Turismo fans - wait no more - the highly-anticipated GT 5 is finally here!

Sony has confirmed its real driving simulator video game is due to hit the North American market on Wednesday (November 24), providing racing enthusiasts with the fifth installment of the Gran Turismo series.

Nicknamed 'GT5', the video game was developed by Polyphony Digital for Sony Computer Entertainment.

"Gran Turismo 5 is a brand new generation of the game that took 10 years to fully develop. When we first introduced Gran Turismo the game was completely new - nothing like it existed. We see Grand Turismo 1 to 4 as our first era and with GT 5 we begin a completely new one," explained Kazunori Yamauchi, GT 5 Polyphony Digital Head Designer.

Gran Turismo 5 includes over 1,000 cars, including the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, the Lexus LFA, the McLaren MP4-12C and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

"The most important part of our work was re-creating the SLS AMG in the virtual world. For the player to really feel like they are driving the SLS, every parameter of the real car had to be re-captured precisely for the GT 5. The challenge was to recompose all elements of the real SLS to achieve a fast, but well-balanced sports car that provides pure driving fun," Yamauchi explained.

In addition, the game also features select NASCAR cars and tracks, along with kart racing, for the first time ever. Other features include the day to night transition of time during a race, and real-time weather changes on select tracks.
